Rich date flavor, with a fragrant aroma filling the house~
Ingredients
Steps
Add yeast powder to the flour and mix, then add water.
Stir it into clumps using chopsticks.
Start kneading the dough.
After forming the dough into a ball, cover and let it rest for 5 minutes.
Knead the dough again after 5 minutes, it should become smooth easily. Cover and let it proof until it doubles in size. The time for proofing depends on the surrounding temperature.
Wash the dates. I used 16 large ones. If your dates are small, add more to match the weight in the recipe.
Remove the pits. I used scissors to cut the date meat off.
Chop them finely and set aside.
The dough is proofed. Check its state; there should be many bubbles when pulled apart.
Knead the dough 100 times. Just do it—no questions asked.
Add chopped dates and knead another 20 times to mix them evenly.
Place it on the counter, knead it a few more times, and shape it roughly into a square.
Roll out the dough to about 1.5–2cm thick.
Cut it evenly into 16 pieces.
Place them in a pot (pre-filled with cool water), and let them proof for a second time for about 20 minutes.
Turn on the heat and steam for 15 minutes after the pot starts steaming. Turn off the heat.
Let it sit for 2–3 minutes before opening the lid to take them out.
