Lotus Leaf Buns (Includes Side Dishes) Super Detailed
Lotus leaf buns, I've seen them in restaurants before. Today is my first time making them. I stir-fried the side dishes casually, and they turned out super delicious. I ate four lotus leaf buns in one go, haha. Don’t worry, it’s very simple. Just keep reading!
Ingredients
Steps
Add sugar to all-purpose flour. Dissolve yeast in warm water, then pour it into the flour. Stir with chopsticks to form a shaggy dough.
Knead into a smooth dough. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.
Dip your finger in flour, poke a hole in the center of the proofed dough. If it doesn’t collapse or deform around the hole, it's ready.
Divide the dough into 6 equal portions, roll each into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 15 minutes.
Lightly grease your hands (to prevent sticking). Take a portion of the dough, flatten it, and roll it into an oval. Brush the surface with a bit of oil.
Fold it in half and press with a new comb to form a lotus leaf pattern. Press firmly to ensure the pattern remains obvious after proofing.
Use the back of the comb to tidy up the shape.
After tidying, it should look like this. Isn't it like a lotus leaf?
Repeat for all portions. Place them on a steamer rack, cover, and proof for 15 minutes. Steam on high heat for 20 minutes after steam appears.
Do not uncover immediately after steaming. Wait for five minutes before opening. The lotus leaf buns are ready.
Side Dishes: You can mix and match to your liking and use a variety of colors. Dice into small pieces.
The size of the meat cuts can also be prepared as per your preference.
Heat oil in a cold pan. Add chopped scallions and stir-fry until fragrant.
Stir-fry carrots and woodear mushrooms first as they take longer to cook.
Add long beans and stir-fry until vibrant green. Add diced meat and cook until it changes color. Then add a spoonful of oyster sauce, a bit of cooking wine, and light soy sauce, and stir-fry.
Add a small amount of five-spice powder, water, and salt. Stir-fry and add green chili until slightly cooked. Add some chicken essence and a bit of cornstarch slurry before serving.
Feel free to be creative!
The lotus leaf buns with fillings are so delicious, even better than the ones at restaurants.
Aren't they beautiful?
