[Hot Dog Rolls] Creative Ways to Eat Mantou, You Wouldn't Have Thought of This!
Everyone knows how to make mantou (steamed buns). Today, I’ll teach you a creative way to use mantou dough to wrap around hot dogs, creating a delicious and visually appealing hot dog roll. It's as simple as making mantou, and you could even consider it a new way to enjoy mantou!
Ingredients
Steps
Fully knead the flour, yeast, baking powder, sugar, and water into a smooth dough, then divide it into 20 portions;
After dividing, roll each piece into a long strip with the cut side facing upward, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rest for 5 minutes;
Roll the rested portions further into longer strips, each about the length of 4 hot dogs;
For the hot dogs, choose crispy ones. Wrap the dough evenly around the hot dogs. Don’t wrap it too tightly, just loosely attach the dough to the hot dog—don’t bind it as if tying a zongzi (sticky rice dumpling);
After making 3 rolls, place them in a steamer to proof. At 30°C room temperature, proof for 15 minutes. At 20°C room temperature, proof for 30–40 minutes. At 10°C room temperature, proof for about 1 hour. If you have an oven, preheat it to 40°C and proof for 15 minutes;
Steam the proofed hot dog rolls for 8-10 minutes once the water comes to a boil. After removing them from the steamer, sprinkle with chopped parsley while hot. If you don't have parsley, use finely chopped scallions as a substitute. You can freeze the steamed hot dog rolls and re-steam them for 8 minutes, then pan-fry them briefly before eating;
Brush some water on the bottom, coat with white sesame seeds, and pan-fry until the bottom turns golden. Serve with mayonnaise or ketchup, accompanied by a glass of soy milk—it’s a healthy and nutritious option.
