Homemade Playdough Toys (Record Post)

Influenced by me, my daughter also loves food-related shows. Toys, toys, toys. Homemade for kids is safer and more hygienic than store‑bought.

Add the cream of tartar and hot water. I used a bread maker to knead for about 8 minutes. I got about 880 g of dough. Divide it evenly into 4 portions.

I only have 4 colors. When I first got into baking I bought all kinds of random things. I heard that food coloring should be good quality, so this cheaper one is just right for making playdough. Mine is McCormick food coloring (red, yellow, blue, green), four colors.

One portion per color, only 3 drops of each color. Knead until evenly colored, so the result is a soft pastel shade. (It’s best to wear gloves while kneading, or the coloring will stain your hands different colors 😊)

After making 4 colors, divide each portion in half again to make 8 portions.

Leave 4 of the 8 portions uncolored. Add yellow to the pink to get the orange on the side.

It should be blue + red to get purple, but I used green + red instead.

Yellow plus these colors red, green, and blue gave this color, haha. I actually don’t really know how to mix colors!

So the last blue one, after adding all kinds of random colors, turned into this darkest green, the one in the lower right corner.

Now you’ve got 8 colors to play with.

After playing, put each color in a bag to keep it from drying out too much.

Cooking Tips

Add all ingredients except the water at once (then add the water gradually depending on how much the flour absorbs). I used regular flour (add the water slowly). Don’t make it too soft. Add water according to the flour’s absorption. Low‑gluten flour is not recommended. Cream of tartar is to increase elasticity. The large amount of salt is for preservation and to prevent mold.
