Purple Sweet Potato Rose

A rose made for my angel mother-in-law~~~ My mother-in-law is very gentle and kind, her soft and soothing tone is just like my own mother. Coincidentally, both my mother-in-law and mother share the same family name! She treats me as her own daughter with great care and love, which I expressed in the form of this beautiful rose for her to enjoy~~~

Purple Sweet Potato2 pcs

Steps

1

I bought purple sweet potatoes of medium size. Clean them, peel them, cut them into small pieces, place them in a bowl, and steam in a steamer for about 10 minutes at high heat, then turn off the heat and let it sit covered for another 5 minutes;

Take them out and mash into a paste with a spoon, let it cool for later use;

Dissolve 5 g of yeast in warm water and add it gradually to 250 g of flour;

Add the purple sweet potato paste and knead into a dough. Since the paste itself contains moisture, add water gradually to avoid the dough becoming too thin;

Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest at room temperature for about 2 hours;

After resting, divide the dough evenly into several small dough portions;

Take one small portion and roll it into a long strip, divide it into equally sized small pieces. Keep the first piece slightly smaller and use it as the flower center;

Roll the smaller dough piece into an olive shape, flatten the other five pieces and roll them into round sheets;

Roll the dough up, press at the indent made earlier with chopsticks, and divide it in half—either with a knife or by pinching it apart with your fingers;

Place them in a steamer and let them proof for another 15 minutes. Do not skip this step as it enhances the texture after steaming. Brush the steamer with oil to prevent sticking;

Cooking Tips

1. Purple sweet potatoes contain moisture when cooked, so add yeast water gradually to prevent the dough from becoming too thin; 2. Letting the dough proof for 15 minutes after placing it in the steamer affects the finished texture and is not recommended to skip.
