One-Rise Halloween Pumpkin Steamed Buns – Kids Will Eat a Couple More
To give my little one a surprise for the coming Halloween, I made fun-shaped buns so she’ll eat a bit more. Anything for that happy smile. 😄
Ingredients
Steps
Peel the pumpkin.
Slice the pumpkin and steam until fully cooked.
Mash the steamed pumpkin into a puree with a spoon.
Put the flour, yeast, and warm pumpkin puree into a bowl.
Stir well until evenly combined.
Knead into a smooth dough.
Divide the dough into portions – make them as big as you like. 😄
Shape each portion into a smooth ball.
If you don’t have a scraper, use a toothpick to press lines into the dough. Press firmly and deep enough, or the lines won’t show after steaming.
Place a goji berry or raisin on top as a stem.
I only let them rise once to save time; doing a second rise is too much trouble.
Proof over warm water until they are about 1.5 times their original size.
Once the water boils, start timing: I steamed them for 8 minutes, then left them covered for another 3 minutes before opening the lid, so they won’t collapse.
The Halloween pumpkin steamed buns are ready.
